Design and Technology has never been more important than in our present times as we look for new ways to live cleaner, healthier and more resourcefully in our fragile and beautiful world that God made.

At SMC we want the children to use their imagination and creativity to design, make and evaluate a range of exciting and relevant products.  The children will use a wide range of tools and materials and will learn how to use them safely and with an increasing amount of skill and confidence.

In order to solve practical problems the children will learn how to think creatively, both individually and collaboratively with others. They will be taught that it is good to take risks and that making mistakes is  part of the journey towards creating a final product. The children will understand that evaluation is an essential part of the design process and they will learn how to look closely and explain how everyday objects work. They will have the opportunity to evaluate products made by themselves, their peers and companies. This will then help the children to develop an interest and understanding of technological processes and the role of manufacturing in society.

As part of their work with food, the pupils will learn the principals of nutrition, healthy eating and how to cook for themselves and others. At SMC, we believe that these crucial life skills are imperative for our pupils in their later life.
