Special Educational Needs & Disabilities

St Margaret Clitherow’s Catholic Primary School provides a broad and balanced curriculum for all pupils. The National Curriculum is our starting point for planning, which is then adapted to meet the specific needs of individuals and groups of children. This is known as ‘adaptive teaching’.

Some of our children have specific needs which, without support and/or intervention, could cause barriers to their learning. These needs are likely to arise as a consequence of a child having special educational needs or disabilities (SEND). Teachers take account of these needs and make provision to support individuals or groups of children and thus enable them to participate effectively in curriculum and assessment activities. The support we offer may take the form of additional adult support/intervention, or it may be that additional resources are utilised to support a child with a particular need. We may ask for external agencies to support our children and staff where needed.

Children may have special educational needs either throughout, or at any time during, their school career. It is very important that our curriculum planning and assessment for children with special educational needs and disabilities takes account of the type and extent of the difficulty experienced by the child and puts in place strategies to allow them to succeed.

The SEND Policy at St Margaret Clitherow’s is based on the notion that all children are special:

“Everybody is somebody at St Margaret Clitherow’s”

Year 5H award winners 🤩

The Head Teacher Award winner is such an enthusiastic young man who stood out during our DT family enrichment session. He was keen to share his ideas and made a fantastic flat bread dough! 👨‍🍳 👏

The Star of the Week shone brightly last week and was noticed by a school visitor for being helpful and hard-working! 💫

The Citizen of the Week theme was ‘Trust’ this week - this young lady certainly knows what Trust is! A fantastic choice from Year 5 during their class vote. 🇬🇧

Finally, our SMC ticket draw winners got to chose a prize after earning lots of SMCs this week.
Well done Year 5! 💜

We know how generous

We know how generous our school community is.
If you are able to support us by donating any products to our Harvest Appeal we would be extremely grateful!

The most popular and frequently requested items at UK food banks:
• Cereal
• Soup
• Pasta and rice
• Tinned vegetables
• Tinned meat
• Tea, coffee & sugar
• UHT long-life milk
• Tinned tomatoes and beans
• Tinned fish (tuna/salmon)
Many food banks also rely on non-food donations (e.g., toiletries, feminine hygiene products and nappies)

Thank you! 💜
